Our Story
A Jump Above Horse Shows (AJA) provides quality show jumping opportunities for the local equestrian community in Marshall, Virginia and the surrounding areas. We are proud to create a welcoming and professional show atmosphere where riders of all levels can grow, compete, and gain valuable experience in the ring.
At AJA, we serve professionals, amateurs, and youth riders, offering thoughtfully organized events that allow competitors to practice and refine their show jumping skills in a supportive environment. Whether you are developing a young horse, preparing for larger competitions, or just beginning your show journey, our shows are designed to help you succeed.

Meet Angie
Angie Cooney is the owner of The Right Touch Therapeutic & Sports Massage. She is a Human and Equine Sports Massage Therapist who has been practicing since 1999. With over two decades of experience, she has built a respected reputation working at the highest levels of equestrian sport.
Angie has served on the support team for eventing athletes at the World Equestrian Games, Pan American Games, and Olympic Games, providing specialized therapeutic care to both horse and rider. Her work focuses on performance optimization, recovery, and long-term soundness.
A lifelong horsewoman who continues to ride, Angie brings firsthand knowledge of the demands placed on horse and rider to every aspect of her practice.
In 2022, she became a 50% owner of A Jump Above Horse Shows, created to meet a growing need in the local community for eventers, fox hunters, and Pony Club members to practice show jumping in a professional show environment. She remains committed to supporting both amateur and professional equestrians through her therapy work and community involvement.
Meet Lara
Lara grew up in Texas, and started riding western in Elementary School, before discovering the sport of eventing. After graduating from culinary school, and a brief stint working in fine dining restaurants, she moved to Virginia to pursue horses as a career. She currently runs LN Sport Horses out of Hume, Va. Lara uses her diverse background, from exercising race horses to being a five-star eventing groom to produce confident, capable horses from the ground up. Specializing in starting young horses and retraining those who need a fresh start.
In addition to a successful grooming career, Lara actively competes in eventing and foxhunts, continually honing skills both as a horsewoman and a competitor. Outside of the barn, she is inspired by travel, photography, and cooking.
Meet Kira of Topeka Custom Design & Photo
Kira is a lifelong equestrian who grew up eventing in Area I before attending Boston University. After college, she moved to the Mid-Atlantic to ride and ultimately built a corporate career alongside her equestrian pursuits. Today, she is a financial adviser based in Warrenton, Virginia.
She owns an eight-year-old quarter horse hony, Pepperbox (“Peppy”), and enjoys dabbling in eventing, jumpers, and hunters.
Topeka Custom Design & Photo began at the first A Jump Above show in 2020 and has since covered every A Jump Above jumper show and derby. Kira has also served as the official photographer for Twilight Jumpers at Great Meadow and the Southern Heritage Farm Hunter Shows, and works with Erin Gilmore Photography and SDH Photography.
Beyond horse shows, she photographs portraits for both people and animals. She is also an experienced graphic designer and website builder.
